fill new selected layer with color. disable lineslayer view. invert selection. blend out selection by 16 and press del 1 to 3 times, a bigger value would destroy the seamless borders.

gaussian blur by 9, layer mode merge. apply canvas center to 512x512 is important to have no irregulars on your image border. export for further editing. possibly bevel selections. perhaps apply bumpmap texture. try posterize your result, makes the image look like cartoon. be creative!
